What Are Non-Governmental Organizations?

The term “non-governmental organization” is a broad category into which many initiatives fall. In general, it refers to any organization that operates independently from governmental bodies. They are typically funded by donations, membership fees, and grants.

At Business Connect, we work with community aid NGOs that focus on addressing social and humanitarian issues. Many of our partners prioritize a multi-pronged approach to water inaccessibility that centers community wellbeing. Action can take many forms and initiatives include everything from well-drilling and maintenance to product deployment and education.

How Are NGOs Different From Other Community Aid Services?

Because they are separate from governmental bodies, NGOs are able to work independently to carry out broad social changes. Some community aid services, like charities, focus more on directly providing support to individuals or communities.

At Business Connect, we are committed to supporting organic economic and social growth in the communities we engage with. Partnering with NGOs is important as we seek the expertise of local leaders and serve as a resource to foster independence and sustainability.

NGO Work is Essential to Ending Water Scarcity

As it stands currently, an estimated two billion people lack access to drinkable water, four billion people face water insecurity at least one month of every year, and 3.4 million die each year from ingesting contaminated water. By 2050 an expected 5 billion people will face water insecurity. With the increasing threat of global climate change, action is needed now more than ever. This is why Business Connect partners with NGOs to work together in combating the water crisis.

Past Business Connect and NGO Partnerships

Our work hinges on global partnerships. Since 2010, we have collaborated with international and domestic NGOs to support clean water initiatives across communities. Check out our impact below:

Water4Life Guatemala

Water4Life Guatemala is a Guatemalan based NGO that works to provide water filtration and other water cleaning technology to schools, health centers and local businesses. Business Connect partnered with Water4Life Guatemala in 2020, and together have distributed over 1,000 VF100 filters.

Goodjustice

Based in both Honduras and Malawi, Goodjustice works to provide families with access to clean water. Run primarily on a volunteer basis, Goodjustice goes door to door throughout communities checking on individual family water access needs. Business Connect has donated VF100 filters to Goodjustice to aid in their efforts to combat the water crisis. Goodjustice puts a lot of emphasis on educating families about the use of water purification systems such as VF100 filters and following up with families they provide aid to.

Rotary International

Business Connect partnered with Rotary International and a local Malawi relief group to combat the cholera outbreak that struck the country in 2022. Business Connect donated 500 Proctor and Gamble water purifications packets, which helped to improve conditions in the area.
