Business Connect Takeaways

Water-related disasters, such as floods and droughts, are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change. This poses a major challenge for achieving SDG 6, as it can undermine progress in water and sanitation access and quality, and exacerbate inequalities and vulnerabilities.
Women and girls are disproportionately affected by water and sanitation issues, as they often bear the burden of collecting water and caring for family members who are sick from water-related diseases. Addressing gender inequalities and promoting women’s participation in water governance and management is therefore crucial for achieving SDG 6.
Financing is a critical enabler for achieving SDG 6, as it requires significant investments in infrastructure, technology, and human resources. However, current levels of financing for water and sanitation are insufficient, and there is a need to mobilize more resources from diverse sources, including public and private sectors, international cooperation, and innovative financing mechanisms.
