Countertop water filters are a convenient and affordable way to ensure you always have access to safe and great-tasting water. Business Connect has worked with international aid organizations, businesses, and entrepreneurs to provide effective water filtration solutions around the world, and we’ve created a list of some of the best countertop water filters available.

Who Can Benefit From a Countertop Water Filter System?

A wide range of people buy and enjoy countertop water filters. They can be an essential tool for people in the developing world who don’t have access to safe drinking water nearby. They are also popular with people who have access to water through a tap but want to filter out potential contaminants such as lead or chlorine.

What Is the Best Countertop Water Filter System?

The best countertop water filtration system is going to depend on what you plan to use it for. For some people, a simple, reliable, and affordable water filter is the best option, while others may be looking for filters with a wide range of options, a high flow rate, or that filter out specific contaminants such as radon. We’ve collected several options with a variety of features below.

The Nazava Water Filter

The Nazava Water Filter is a straightforward, affordable water filter that is perfect for a family or small business. The .04-micron ceramic candle filter uses activated carbon and silver ions to protect against bacteria and protozoa while improving taste. It has been certified by the WHO, Kenya Bureau of Standards, and Rwanda Standards Board. The Nazava Water Filter has a 32-liter tank, and it can filter up to 7,000 liters before the filter needs to be replaced.

Coldstream Stainless Steel Countertop Water Filter

The Coldstream Stainless Steel Countertop Ceramic Water Purification System is both stylish and effective. It can be attached to your faucet in just 10 minutes, and it uses a diverter switch to change the flow between the faucet and the filter. It can filter water at a speed of 2.5 liters per minute, and one filter can be used for up to 3,000 liters of water.

The Coldstream filter’s cartridge has been certified for use by the NSF for removing up to 99.9% of common contaminants including lead, fluoride, PFAS, and microplastics. However, the Coldstream filter leaves electrolytes, healthy salts, and essential minerals in the water to maintain taste.

UZ-2 Bucket filter

A stacked-bucket water filtration system that doesn’t require any electricity, the UZ-2 is rated “very effective” against both bacteria and protozoa. It can hold up to 16 liters of water and filter at least one liter per minute. This product’s filter uses hollow fiber membrane technology that has been certified by the World Health Organization. The UZ-2 is also long-lasting, with an operating life of 5–10 years.

AquaTru Countertop Reverse Osmosis Filter

This AquaTru product is one of the best countertop reverse osmosis water filters available. While the product has a higher price tag, it is certified by multiple organizations, including the NSF. It doesn’t require plumbing or installation, and each filter lasts between 600 and 1,200 gallons of water. The AquaTru Classic Countertop Water Filtration Purification System uses a four-stage process to remove 83 contaminants such as lead, fluoride, and chlorine.

Big Berkey Travel Water Filter

A stylish water filter with a small footprint that won’t take up too much space on your countertop, the Big Berkey Water Filter is a gravity-fed system that can hold 8.5 liters in its slim, stainless steel design. It takes about two-and-a-half hours to filter all the water this filter can hold, and its filter lasts for about 3,000 gallons. It removes up to 99.9% of heavy metals such as lead, along with pesticides, rust, silt, petroleum, and other harmful contaminants.

While the system itself is effective, products that include Black Berkey Filter Elements (such as the Big Berkey) were removed from sale due to an EPA order. However, we offer the Coldstream Ceramic Water Filter FTO+ cartridge, which can serve as an effective replacement.

Additional Ways to Filter Your Water

Countertop filters aren’t the only way to remove contaminants from your water. There are also portable options such as the ROAMfilter Mini 2, backpacks such as the UZ – BP, or bottles such as the Z-Source. We offer water filters such as the VF100 Home Filter which can be plugged in right at the source. We also offer facility filters such as the VF500 that can be installed in homes, schools, or communities to filter water for large groups of people.

If you’re unable to carry a water filter with you, there are other options available. We recommend purchasing water purifying tablets such as Aquatabs, which use chlorine to safely kill bacteria, viruses, and parasites in your water. Products such as the P&G Purifier of Water use chemical methods to remove suspended materials in your water. They use a process called flocculation, in combination with coagulation, to catch particles and force them to sink to the bottom of the container.
